Coach’s Message:
1.23-1.29
Star’s Football Family-
What a fantastic week for our program. Nothing gets me going more than watching our program improve. Attendance was at an all-time high, the effort and spirit in the room were absolutely palpable. I cannot thank our players enough for their accountability and investment in each other. As head coaches, we hope our message gets through to our kids and sometimes we honestly don’t know. We constantly talk to our kids about taking action and how we have to fall in love with the process. We want our kids to get addicted to progress. Our goal is to build habits so deeply into their lives that they know no other way but to keep putting in the work. This week we got took a huge step in the right direction.
The month of January is a busy time in high school football. Anybody who says football only lasts August through November is a bit off the mark. Running a football program is a 24/7 7 days a week job. There are very few moments in my week where the program is not somewhere on my radar. In January in particular we begin to have college coaches come into our building to meet with our players. This can become very busy at times with multiple schools coming in daily. This particular week we had about 20 schools come in through the day. On Thursday we were fortunate enough to have two high-profile schools in our weight room watching our kids workout. Unfortunately, when we do have schools my attention is a bit diverted to help cater to their questions. In these instances, the tendency of the players in teh room can be to lose focus and go through the motions. Well, not this group, quite the opposite! The leadership and accountability to an ELITE level of investment were on display. The energy and effort our kids lifted was truly inspiring. It was so noticeable that one of the coaches even commented on how well the boys were doing. In my world that is the highest praise, a program can receive. When ownership of the standard is held by the players then the program can truly reach its full potential.
This is the beauty of the off-season. If we approach it with intent and focus we can find many moments that will help us to unlock our fullest potential as a team. It is moments like these that will open doors for us to win our 1st state championship. I believe this.
KEEP CLIMBIN’
IRON STAR FOOTBALL
With the dawn of a new year, I feel this is a great opportunity to reintroduce our Iron Star Values. As a program, our values have been and will always be the foundation of our belief system. Everything we do as a program is built around the facilitation of the message that our values deliver. At St. Charles North our values are known as Iron Star Football. Each point on the star represents 1 value. None more important than the other. Each value owns an equal stake in the program, much like each parent, player, and staff member. As the head coach, it is my purpose to deliver an experience that goes above and beyond the game of football. Iron Star football is the antithesis of this message.
This week our program will be taking a deep dive into our value of PREPARATION..
When teaching our values to our players we will focus on 3 aspects of learning and understanding.
Values: The “WHY” of our program
Standards: The “HOW” of our program
- Standards define how the values will be executed
Outcomes: The “What” of our program
- This is what can happen if our values are believed and executed with flawless detail
Here is what our players said about what PREPARATION is to them.
Value: PREPARATION
Standard: North Stars should always have the necessary materials, equipment or scheme prepared so that can contribute to the betterment of the team. Preparation is a key to winning and we support only behaviors that WIN!
Outcome: When we are prepared will practice and play with confidence. We will know our roles and be responsible for their flawless execution in our games. Being prepared in school will also contribute to our success in both the classroom and on the field. Preparation is a habit and it can be developed with time, consistency, and persistence.
Preparation is a foundational element to all success. It can be as simple as laying out your clothes for the next day or having your bag packed for the morning. It is a habit and it can be learned. When we talk to our kids about preparation we focus on what we are not doing and look at the friction points that are inhibiting us from truly developing this trait into our everyday lives. Just like all of our values it is behavior and it is important to the overall success of the team and individual player.
As usual, I strongly encourage you to have a talk with your son or daughter about what they are investing their time and effort into these days. I know when my daughters and I talk about it I always learn a little bit more about what is important to them at that snapshot of their life.

Platoon Challenge Update
Week 9’s Elite Leader is Anthony Taormina. Anthony is a current sophomore who started for the Stars this past fall season. Anthony is a tremendous asset to the team. His leadership has blossomed into more than just self-accountability. He now has an influence on other players in our program. In our program that is what we look for when we are trying to develop our future captains. No longer is the question “ how are you doing ?” it becomes “ how is everyone else doing?” So happy for Anthony! Truly a blessing to watch young men flourish in our program
GO – RILLAZ BACK ON TOP !!!
SPRING 7 ON 7 OPPORTUNITY
As we move into 2022, one of my goals as the leader of the program is to create more opportunities to play the game for our youth and in-building athletes. With that said, Mike Taormina and his I9 program have launched a very exciting 7 on 7 program that we will be participating in this April & May.

JOURNEY VS DESTINATION
As we embark on this winter off-season, I want to stress the importance of focusing not just on the destination we are striving to achieve. Getting to the top of the mountain is a great goal, but to make this a reality, we must first embrace the journey we are about to take. The day-to-day climb will feed our souls and build the behaviors that we will need to reach the destination. Focusing on a destination is not a terrible thing to do but often it is just a point on a map and it offers no benefits until the destination is reached. On the flip side, when we focus on the journey we can appreciate each small step that we take in preparation for reaching the destination.
Finally, our communication loop must be clear, concise, and accurate. Please take the time to read emails, newsletters and check our website www.scn4thphase.org As always, if you have any questions please reach out to any of our group leaders
