Star’s Football Family-
Greetings from St. Charles….Missouri! LOL, I am writing to you from along the side of the mighty Mississippi in a quaint little town called St. Charles. This weekend I had an amazing opportunity to come down and clinic a new staff on program building and culture sustainability. I have to say the staff and administration were beyond generous and the whole experience was truly wonderful. First, I want to say thank you for making this program one that people want to know about. Without players and parents like yourself who invest so much into making it the best, I would not have much to talk about! I spent the better part of 14 hours meeting with their staff, boosters, parents, and administration discussing the importance of the overall experience and making the greater purpose the focus of the program.
Anytime I get the opportunity to speak in front of others, I hold it in high regard. I know that this is my opportunity to cast a bigger stone into the waters and spread the ripple I that is SCN FB further into the world. In preparation for this event, I spent countless hours reviewing and reflecting on our SCN FB program. I always appreciate the work that goes into preparing a speech because it forces us to look into our own walls and evaluate if we are holding true to the standards that we have set for ourselves. I have to say that I could not be prouder of where this program currently is. After 10 years of tireless work by all of us, I believe that we have created a program that not only sets the standard for high school football in the country but continues to rewrite that standard by constantly pushing ourselves into new uncharted territory.
I met a lot of great people who seemed to be very familiar with what we do. It was extremely humbling to have people who I have never encountered know about our Iron Star Values or our platoon challenges. It goes without saying that being a Northstar is truly special. I consider myself blessed to have this opportunity each and every day. I cannot wait to see what the future holds for our program but I believe it will eventually end with us holding the state championship trophy. I BELIEVE THIS!!
IRON STAR FOOTBALL
With the dawn of a new year, I feel this is a great opportunity to reintroduce our Iron Star Values. As a program, our values have been and will always be the foundation of our belief system. Everything we do as a program is built around the facilitation of the message that our values deliver. At St. Charles North our values are known as Iron Star Football. Each point on the star represents 1 value. None more important than the other. Each value owNing an equal stake in the program, much like each parent, player, and staff member. As the head coach, it is my purpose to deliver an experience that goes above and beyond the game of football. Iron Star football is the antithesis of this message.
This week our program will be taking a deep dive into our value of INVESTMENT.
When teaching our values to our players we will focus on 3 aspects of learning and understanding.
Values: The “WHY” of our program
Standards: The “HOW” of our program
- Standards define how the values will be executed
Outcomes: The “What” of our program
- This is what can happen if our values are believed and executed with flawless detail
Here is what our players said about what investment is to them.
Standard: Support Behaviors that Win. We will invest our most valuable assets of time, energy, and effort into each other daily. We will only support behavior that gets us closer to victory and have an intolerance for behaviors that lose.
Outcome: When we invest time into the greater purpose, we begin to build the trust triangle. Trust is built through connection, competence, and character. We cannot build a connection without investing time together.
Investment in any form has a compound effect. In our program, we not only talk to our kids about the investment into the program but subsequently the return on investment that we can expect. Just like a financial investment if we place our resources in the right spots and at the right time we can maximize the return. The goal is to cash in on the football field when the moment presents itself.
As usual I strongly encourage you to have a talk with your son or daughter about what they are investing their time and effort into these days. I know when my daughters and I talk about it I always learn a little bit more about what is important to them at that snapshot of their life.
QUARTER 1 WINTER OFFSEASON UP-DATE
In the SCN FB program, we develop an individualized plan for all players. We focus on the holistic development of each individual in the following categories.

Platoon Challenge Update
Our week 8 Elite Leader is Senior to be Nick Jenco. Nick is a phenomenal young man who has truly blossomed in our program. As a sophomore Nick joined his SCN brothers and sisters for the first time and quickly became and impact player. As a junior Nick continued to impress both on and off the field with his high motor and elite level of preparation. Needless to say, this off season Nick has taken the next step in his process and become a program leader and I know his return on his investment is coming this fall!

Spaces are limited and there is a strict attendance policy for this opportunity. Dates will be released next week but registration is open to all levels.
JOURNEY VS DESTINATION
As we embark on this winter off-season, I want to stress the importance of focusing not just on the destination we are striving to achieve. Getting to the top of the mountain is a great goal, but to make this a reality, we must first embrace the journey we are about to take. The day-to-day climb will feed our souls and build the behaviors that we will need to reach the destination. Focusing on a destination is not a terrible thing to do but often it is just a point on a map and it offers no benefits until the destination is reached. On the flip side, when we focus on the journey we can appreciate each small step that we take in preparation for reaching the destination.
Finally, our communication loop must be clear, concise, and accurate. Please take the time to read emails, newsletters and check our website www.scn4thphase.org As always, if you have any questions please reach out to any of our group leaders
